Most dental insurance plans cover specific types of treatment up until a certain percentage. Every plan has its own unique stipulations to consider, but most plans will cover treatments in the following way as broken down below:
Preventive Care – Exams, cleanings and X-rays are considered preventive care and are covered at or close to 100 percent.
Minor Restorative Care – dental fillings and often times root canal therapy are considered minor restorative care and often see 70 to 80 percent coverage from insurance.
Major Restorative Care – crowns, bridges and dentures are considered major restorative treatments and usually receive up to 50 percent coverage.
